Topic: Demographics in CFISD

Bio:
Susan Cates is a native Texan passionate about helping communities reach their potential! Experience spanning Human Resources, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing, as well as owning her own business, led her to a career in Community and Economic Development. Leveraging her experience in municipal economic development she stepped into a position with Population and Survey Analysts as a Demographer where she is responsible for developing housing projections and forecasting population growth. Ms. Cates's background allows her to approach projects through a contextual framework that analyzes inputs from elected officials, planning departments, home builders, land developers, real estate professionals, and others to provide comprehensive projections for a variety of planning purposes. Experience evaluating a community's assets to target economic potential has developed Ms. Cates's insight and understanding of the complexities associated with municipal planning and residential development. These skills contribute to PASA?s commitment to accurate data collection and cogent, relatable projections.
Mrs. Cates is a graduate of Texas A&M University. She holds certifications as a Certified Economic Developer under the International Economic Development Council, and a Professional Community and Economic Developer under the Community Development Council. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute and the Community Development Institute at Lone Star College.

ABOUT POPULATION AND SURVEY ANALYSTS

PASA is a demographics consulting firm that partners with school districts in forward thinking for utilization of resources, particularly long-range planning for facilities. This involves projecting new residential development, understanding potential land uses for undeveloped parcels, and relating these findings to future students in the schools. PASA also projects enrollment growth and decline in areas with no new construction potential by studying which neighborhoods are regenerating with younger families. PASA uses these long-term projections to outline a step-by-step plan for when and where new schools could be needed in the future.
Having a clear idea of future growth potential, the school district can plan in a financially responsible and transparent manner and maximize student stability by minimizing the need for changing schools.
